  2. How to Create a Website
  3. Operation for email, Facebook, Twitter, website and RSS.

The eNGO programme strives to empower  NGOs across the world and Self Help Groups to create a virtual identity and increase their visibility for national and global outreach. In this workshop 215 people from 110 groups participated from various parts of Kenya.

ATTENDANCE

The workshop was attended by one hundred and twenty three organizations. Each organization was represented by two individuals. In attendance were the following:

  1. Government officials from the ministries of provincial administration, youth affairs, gender development and social services as well as the ministry of fisheries.
  2.  Via-agro forestry an in international organization which supports organizations involved in agriculture was represented by two of their coordinators.

The total number of people who attended the launch was two hundred and seventy four including the members of Brains and Vision.

GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION OF THE PARTICIPANTS

The workshop was conducted in Ahero township which is twenty five kilometers from  the city of Kisumu.The participants came from three counties out of the forty seven counties that make the republic of  Kenya.This include Kisii county which is one hundred and ten kilometers from the venue of the workshop,Homabay county which is one hundred and twenty from the venue and Kisumu,the county which was the hosting county though participants came from different localities some coming from  as far as seventy kilometers apart.

THE WORKSHOP PROGRAM/AGENDA/FACILITATION

The workshop started at 10:30 am Kenyan time with introductions and key note speech from the CEO of Brains and Vision. Participants then listed there their expectations which included:

  1. Information technology empowerment
  2. Having a website for their organizations at the end of the workshop/be online
  3. Digital empowerment
  4. Networking with other organizations both local and international
  5. Know how to operate /manage a website i.e. uploading pictures and updating information

The facilitation/presentation was started by Mr. Amitabh Singhal of Public Interest Registry, then Mr. Devendra Singh of Digital Empowerment Foundation India.The facilitators also allowed questions and answer time, the participants reacted and answers were provided as per their questions.

ON THE FACILITATORS

The participants appreciated and continues to appreciate the strengths and the professionalism of the facilitators. It was observed that they were well equipped and well prepared in terms of content delivery.

ON THE WORKSHOP

The participants appreciated the workshop stating that it was timely and much impactful. They said that such kind of workshops needs to be arranged as they have great impact in developing and marketing the various organizations. They appreciated the concept of a website being an online shop.

WAY FORWARD

The organizations promised to provide their information’s, profiles and pictures for web development by the DEF INDIA.

CONCLUSION

The workshop was concluded with group photos which included the panel and the participants.

RECOMMENDATIONS

  1. More workshops to be organized in Kenya and Africa at large, so that through this program the grass organizations will be empowered digitally. The organization is ready and willing to be trained on digitization and is also willing to have their websites developed.
  2. A digital center should be set up in Africa to act as a point of information and contact centre for all the organizations in Africa.This will create ease in coordinating the ENGO network across the African continent.
  3. The back office key/password should be given to the organizations after their websites have been developed so that they are able to update the website and keep live on a regular basis.
  4. More capacity building to be done to the organizations so as to enhance their I.C.T skills hence uplifting their digital status.
