PIR CEO and COO & DEF visited Barefoot College – to know how ICT works at grassroots level & apprise of eNGO programme
Public Interest Registry (PIR), Administrator & Manager of DOT ORG TLD (top level domain) is one of the strongest partner of DEF (Digital Empowerment Foundation) and together they have been running the eNGO programme and have reached more than 1000 NGOs across South Asia in order to understand local realities of the grass root NGOs and to learn how local NGOs have been using ICT tools and could further be motivated to use modern communication gadgets and tools; PIR along with DEF made a visit to Barefoot college in Tilonia in Kishangadh block in Ajmer Dist in Rajasthan.
The visit was accompanied by My Brian Cute, CRO of PIR and Ms Nancy COO of PIR made a visit on 22nd May, 2012 and spent about half a day visiting Communication Division of Barefoot College, Craft Centre, Kabad Se Jugad Centre, Carpentry Centre, Video & Photography Centre, Solar Cooker Manufacturing and Solar training & Assembling Centre and also Water & Sanitation Division of Barefoot College. They expressed their extreme satisfaction and sense of commitment to the organisation in some of their projects like Digitization of more than 10 thousand hours of folk music that Barefoot College had accumulated in the last four decade.
The team also felt very strongly that they could make a short movie on Barefoot College to use it as an inspiration to inspire other grass root NGOs in the country that how to adapt ICT and other tools for development.
PIR being a TLD administer of DOT ORG has recently applied for DOT NGO and DOT ONG domain extension in order to provide these domain’s extension to nongovernmental organisations across the world. DEF is the PIR’s partner for campaigning for DOT NGO and DOT ONG.
